Under the brand “grubenhund games” I develop and publish games for smartphones and tablets. I am not required to appoint a data protection officer; if you have questions, write to me directly.

2. Scope

This policy covers all games by grubenhund games: Woof Island, Pawshift, Doggo Dive, Don't bark, Runaway Tail, Cardogo and Wobble Garden. Each section states which games it applies to.

What happens when you visit this website (games.grubenhund.com) is described in the section “Visiting this website”. The dog training website grubenhund.com has its own privacy policy (in German).

3. In short

  • You don't need to register – no name, no password.
  • Your progress is stored on your device.
  • Where there is a cloud backup, your progress is also stored under a random, anonymous ID in a data center in Frankfurt, Germany.
  • We only process an e-mail address if you enter one yourself – to link it or to load your progress.
  • We use no analytics or tracking tools of our own.
  • Ads are served by Google AdMob – personalized only with your consent.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple and Google; we never see payment details.

Runaway Tail:

  • You don't need to sign up – no name, no password, no e-mail.
  • Your progress is stored on your device. So that it isn't lost, the game automatically backs up a copy in our cloud – under an anonymous account, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. On iPhone and iPad, there is also a copy in your iCloud.
  • Linking your Apple account is optional.
  • We don't use any analytics or tracking tools.
  • Ads are served by Google AdMob – personalized only with your consent and only from age 16.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple and Google; we never see payment details.
  • Leaderboards run on Apple Game Center, and you only get notifications if you agree.

Wobble Garden:

  • You don't need to register – no name, no password, no account with us.
  • Your progress is stored on your device and, if you turn on the backup, also in your private iCloud.
  • We run no servers and use no analytics or tracking tools. The app does not ask for tracking permission.
  • Ads are served by Google AdMob and are always non-personalized. Under 13, and before the game has asked for your age, there are no ads; up to 15, only videos you start yourself.
  • Your month and year of birth stay on your device and are only used to protect minors from unsuitable ads.
  • Purchases are handled by Apple; we never see payment details.
  • The app signs you in to Apple Game Center if you are signed in there; we receive no data from this.

4. Progress on your device

Applies to: Woof Island, Pawshift, Doggo Dive, Don't bark, Runaway Tail, Cardogo and Wobble Garden

The games store progress, settings, unlocked and purchased content locally on your device. This data does not reach us unless one of the backups described below is active. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the game) and § 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG (storage on the device that is strictly necessary).

Note on device backups: if iCloud Backup on your iPhone or Android backup in your Google account is switched on, it may also back up the game data and restore it after a reinstall. Apple's or Google's privacy terms apply; we do not receive this data.

Wobble Garden:

The app stores on your device: solved puzzles with your treats, Wobbles, tips, outfits, items and friends, completed gardens, your daily-puzzle streak, achievements, purchased packs with Apple's transaction numbers, counters and receipts of ad videos, the day of your last free tip, the daily ad-break counter, your age information (see “Children and teens”) as well as language, music, sound and vibration settings. The purpose is to keep progress, purchases and rewards, never credit anything twice and keep ads age-appropriate (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR; for the age information (c) or (f)). Wobble Garden creates no account of its own and runs no servers of its own.

Note on device backups: if iCloud Backup on your iPhone or iPad is on, it may also back up the game data. Apple's privacy terms apply; we do not receive this data.

5. Permissions and links

Applies to: Don't bark

“Don't bark” asks for no permissions: no microphone, camera, photos, location or notifications. It only uses vibration (can be switched off) and keeps the screen on while you play. The links to help and legal pages open this website in your browser; what happens there is described below in the section “Visiting this website”.

6. Feedback and bug report

Applies to: Pawshift and Runaway Tail

The game keeps the last technical error messages (at most 30) on your device. Under Settings → “Feedback & bug report” you can share or copy a report yourself. It contains the game version, platform and the device identifier of the browser or system (e.g. “iPhone”, no model) with OS version, screen size, graphics level and renderer, language, time, the current chapter and the screen you are on, your progress as a number, your note and the last 15 error messages. The game never sends it on its own; we only receive it if you send it to us. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR (helping with problems).

Runaway Tail:

The game keeps a small diagnostics log on your device (device, frame rates, the levels with the most failed attempts, the latest events and errors). It only leaves your device if you write a support e-mail under Settings → “Help & legal” and choose “With diagnostics”: then it is included as text in the e-mail, and you see it before you send it. We use your e-mail and the report only to help you (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR) and delete them once your request has been resolved.

7. Sharing

Applies to: Doggo Dive

If you share a save code or a duel invite, you choose the recipient and the app yourself. We do not receive this data.

Doggo Dive:

The save code contains your entire progress including your player name and install ID; the duel invite contains your player name.

8. Cloud backup of your progress

Applies to: Woof Island, Doggo Dive, Don't bark and Runaway Tail

Purpose: so your progress is not lost – for example when you delete the app or switch to a new device – it is backed up to our cloud storage. The game creates an anonymous account for this automatically, without a name or password.

Data: a randomly generated account ID, your save (including purchases, in games that have them), backup timestamps and, for each sign-in session, the IP address and device or browser information (user agent) that our provider stores to secure the session. Woof Island additionally stores a short summary (island name, level, number of dogs, currencies, play time), the device type (e.g. “iPhone”) and the game and language on the account (for matching e-mails); its save also contains the age information (birth year) and purchases with product and transaction IDs. Don't bark stores your progress there (chapters completed, best times, keepsakes found, the current run with its checkpoint), a short summary of it, the device type (such as “iPhone”) and the game and language on the account (for matching e-mails). Your settings are not uploaded. Backups run in the background, at most every three minutes and when you leave the app.

Processor: Supabase, Inc. (USA) as processor under Art. 28 GDPR. The data is stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the game with backup) and Art. 6(1)(f) (secure, abuse-protected operation).

Retention: save and account until you delete the cloud data in the game or ask us to, at the latest when the game is discontinued. Anonymous accounts not linked to Apple, Google or an e-mail address are deleted automatically, together with their save, after 24 months without use (no backup and no sign-in). Session data (IP address, user agent) is kept while the sign-in is valid and deleted with the account at the latest. See Delete data. In Woof Island you can switch the backup off under “Settings → Cloud save”. In Don't bark the backup is on from the start; you turn it off on the title screen under “Settings” → “Cloud save” → “Back up progress to the cloud.” If you link the same e-mail address in another of our games, both saves share one account; deleting in Don't bark deletes only its save, and the account itself only once it holds no saves.

Doggo Dive:

So your progress survives a new phone or a reinstall, the app backs up your progress automatically – at launch, shortly after changes and when you leave the app. For this the app creates an anonymous account (random user ID, no e-mail, no name), but only once you have finished the first level.

Data: your progress (levels, stars, shells, collection, in-game settings, your player name and the names and results of your duel friends – without the install ID), a small summary (level, stars, shells, time), the device type (iOS or Android), a version number and the game and language on the account. Your IP address technically appears in the server logs. In Settings you will find a recovery code to move your progress to another device; the server only keeps a one-way hash of it.

Processor: Supabase, Inc. (USA) as processor under Art. 28 GDPR; the data is stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the game including backup).

Turning it off and retention: you can turn the backup off under Settings → “Cloud save” and delete your cloud data there. Otherwise the data is kept until you delete it or ask us to; accounts unused for 24 months are deleted automatically. See Delete data.

Runaway Tail:

So that your progress isn't lost – for example if you delete the game or switch devices – the game automatically creates an anonymous account the first time you launch it and backs up a copy of your progress there. We use the service Supabase (Supabase, Inc., USA) as our processor under Art. 28 GDPR; the data is stored on servers in Frankfurt, Germany.

Data: a random user ID, your progress (levels, stars, bones, color drops, unlocked and purchased items with their purchase IDs, settings, a random install ID, game statistics such as the number of runs and ad breaks shown, the time of your first launch, the journal and daily gifts), a short summary of it (levels cleared, stars, number of runs, play time, Endless best), your device type (iOS or Android) and the time of the last backup. You don't need a name, e-mail address or password for this. For technical reasons, Supabase processes your IP address while syncing (server logs). On your device, the game stores an access key for your anonymous account.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is protecting your progress from being lost. You can object at any time by deleting the backup in the game under Settings → “Cloud save” → “Delete cloud data”; after that, the game stops backing up until you turn the cloud backup back on yourself.

Retention: until you delete it this way or ask us to delete it. If your account isn't linked with Apple, we delete it together with your save automatically after 24 months without use (no backup and no sign-in). See Delete data.

9. E-mail linking (optional)

Applies to: Woof Island and Don't bark

When you link an e-mail address or load your progress on another device, we send you a 6-digit code. Your e-mail address and the message are processed. We use the Resend service of Plus Five Five, Inc. (USA) as processor; messages are sent via servers in Ireland (EU). We send no advertising and no newsletters. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. The e-mail address stays linked to your account until you delete it; Resend keeps sending logs (recipient, time, delivery status) for 30 days. In Woof Island, players whose birth year means they turn 16 or younger this year cannot link an e-mail address.

10. Linking with Apple or Google (optional)

Applies to: Runaway Tail

Runaway Tail:

Under Settings → “Cloud save” → “Continue with Apple”, you can link your cloud account with your Apple account. Then you get your progress back on a new device or after reinstalling, too. You sign in with “Sign in with Apple”; Apple sends us an identifier of your Apple account and – depending on what you choose at Apple – your e-mail address or an anonymous relay address from Apple. We store both with Supabase in your account. If your Apple ID is already linked to an older save, the game signs you in there and merges both saves.

The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (a feature you asked for). “Sign out” disconnects the device from the linked account; the game then backs up to a new anonymous account again. “Delete cloud data” deletes the account including the e-mail address and the link (unless it still holds a save from another grubenhund games title). Apple's privacy policy applies to the sign-in itself.

11. Restore without sign-in

Applies to: Woof Island and Don't bark

Woof Island and Don't bark create a random recovery key and keep it in your device backup (iOS: iCloud Keychain of your Apple ID; Android: Android backup of your Google account). Our cloud storage only holds an irreversible hash of this key, so the game can find your progress after a reinstall or on a new device. Apple's and Google's privacy terms apply to the device backup.

12. Copy in your iCloud (iPhone and iPad)

Applies to: Pawshift, Runaway Tail, Cardogo and Wobble Garden

On iPhone and iPad the game keeps a copy of your progress in the iCloud storage of your Apple ID so it is available on your other Apple devices. This copy is held only by Apple in your account; we have no access to it. Apple's privacy terms apply. You can turn off iCloud for the game in the iOS settings; how to delete the copy in the game is explained under “Delete data”.

Pawshift:

The app keeps a copy of your progress (without settings) in the iCloud key-value storage of your Apple ID so you can continue on your other devices. The provider is Apple; we have no access to it, there is no account with us and we run no servers. You can turn this off under Settings → “Cloud save” with the “iCloud save” switch; this deletes the iCloud copy. Android (later): your progress is part of the Android backup in your Google account if you have turned it on in Android's settings.

Wobble Garden:

The iCloud backup starts off. Turn it on in the settings with the “iCloud backup” switch. It uses your Apple account's private CloudKit database – there is no separate game account, and we have no access to it.

It backs up your progress: puzzles and treats, Wobbles, tips, outfits, items and friends, gardens, your daily streak, achievements, purchased packs with Apple's transaction numbers, the counters and receipts of ad videos and the day of your last free tip, plus version, revision and save time. Not included are your age information, language, music, sound and vibration settings and the daily ad-break counter. A hashed reference to your iCloud account stays on the device; if you switch accounts, the backup turns itself off. If two devices have different progress, the game merges them automatically and keeps the better result of each.

Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for the backup you turned on. The copy stays until you delete it; turning the backup off does not delete it. How to delete it is explained under “Delete data”. Apple's terms apply to your Apple account and iCloud.

13. Apple Game Center

Applies to: Runaway Tail and Wobble Garden

Runaway Tail:

If you are signed in to Game Center on your device, the game sends your best scores – Endless mode, the Daily Track and your total stars – to Apple Game Center. Other players see them there together with your Game Center name; in the game, we show the leaderboards from Game Center. Game Center is a service of Apple (a separate controller); we don't receive any of your data through it. Without a Game Center sign-in, nothing is sent; you can sign out in the iOS Settings under “Game Center”. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Wobble Garden:

At launch the app signs you in to Apple Game Center; if you are not signed in, Apple may show its sign-in screen. When you are signed in and the leaderboard and achievements are enabled for the game, it reports your total number of treats to the leaderboard and unlocked achievements to Game Center. Who can see your entry depends on your Game Center settings. We receive no data from this. Apple's privacy terms apply to Game Center.

14. In-app purchases

Applies to: Woof Island, Pawshift, Runaway Tail, Cardogo and Wobble Garden

Purchases are handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play, who are separate controllers for this. We never receive payment details. The game only receives a purchase confirmation and records in your save which content you bought, so it stays unlocked. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

Pawshift:

Offered are “Ad-Free” (one-time), a starter pack (one-time) and packs of sparks. Sparks are an in-game currency for glow colors and collars only; hints and levels are always free. The app stores which purchases were credited on the device (and in the iCloud copy) so nothing is credited twice or lost.

Wobble Garden:

Offered are the No Ad Breaks Pack (previously “No-ads bundle”; one-time: no more ad breaks, 15 tips and Buddy's friend Goldie with a golden coat), the starter pack (one-time: 600 Wobbles, 10 tips and the bucket hat) and packs of 10 or 30 tips. Apple sets the prices for each country and shows them before you buy. The app stores which purchases were credited, with Apple's transaction numbers, on the device (and, if turned on, in the iCloud backup) so nothing is credited twice or lost. Players under 13 see no purchase button in the tip dialog.

15. Advertising (Google AdMob)

Applies to: Woof Island, Pawshift, Doggo Dive, Runaway Tail and Wobble Garden

Woof Island shows ads via Google AdMob: optional reward videos and occasional ad breaks. Players who turn 13 or younger this year see no ads, and no ad service is loaded for them.

Some games show ads – as optional ad videos with a reward or as ad breaks between levels. They are served by Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Google may process in particular the advertising ID (IDFA or Android advertising ID), the IP address and the approximate location derived from it, device and OS information, ad interactions and diagnostic data.

Consent: personalized ads and access to the advertising ID and device storage require your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). We ask for it via Google's consent dialog before any ads are loaded; you can change or withdraw it any time in the game's settings. On iPhone and iPad we also ask via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you do not consent, Google shows limited ads at most: not personalized and without access to the advertising ID or device storage. To deliver them, Google technically processes the IP address (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; our legitimate interest is funding the free game).

No Ads: where a game offers a “No Ads” purchase, you will no longer see ad breaks afterwards; optional ad videos remain available.

Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses. More: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Doggo Dive:

Doggo Dive is free to play and is funded by optional rewarded videos. When you choose to watch a video (one life back or extra moves), Google AdMob shows an ad – a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. There is no other advertising.

Where Google requires consent (e.g. in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland), the app first asks through Google's consent form whether personalized ads are allowed; without consent only non-personalized ads are shown. On iPhone, iOS then asks whether the app may use the advertising identifier (IDFA). The form appears at the earliest on your second launch or the first time you want to watch a video. Where consent is required, you change your choice under Settings → “Ad privacy settings” (the entry appears once the consent form has run); you change the tracking permission in the iOS Settings.

Google processes, among other things, device and advertising IDs, IP address, approximate location, ad interactions and diagnostics (Google Privacy Policy). Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent), or (f) for non-personalized ads. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Wobble Garden:

Wobble Garden shows ads via Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. How many depends on your age (see “Children and teens”):

  • Before the game has asked for your age, and under 13: no ads. The ad service is not started, no ads are requested and no videos are offered.
  • 13 to 15 and “Rather not say”: only optional videos that you start yourself – for a tip, to skip a level, or for free Wobbles (up to five times a day). No ad breaks. The ad service only starts with your first video; ads are requested as child-directed.
  • 16 and 17: optional videos and short, announced ad breaks after wins, requested as teen-directed.
  • 18 and older: optional videos and ad breaks; Google's consent form where Google requires it.

Ad breaks appear after the tenth solved level at the earliest, then at most after every third new win, at least two minutes apart, no more than six per session and twelve per day. The No Ad Breaks Pack removes them; the optional videos stay available.

For all age groups, the app only requests non-personalized ads, disables personalization and the publisher first-party ID, and caps ad content at Google's “G” rating (all audiences). Players under 18 are flagged to Google as under the age of consent. The app does not ask for tracking permission (App Tracking Transparency) or your precise location. Non-personalized is not anonymous: Google may process IP address, approximate location, device information, ad interactions and diagnostics for delivery, fraud prevention and reporting (Google Privacy Policy).

Consent: for adults, the app shows Google's consent form where Google requires it (e.g. in the EU); ads are only requested when it allows. Adults can change or withdraw their choice under “Ad privacy” in the settings. Legal basis: processing that requires consent relies on Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and, where applicable, § 25(1) TDDDG, otherwise on Art. 6(1)(f) (funding the free game). Withdrawal applies for the future. Transfers to the USA are based on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses.

Note: these rules apply from version 2.0.1. In version 2.0, all age groups saw ads; under 16 and without an age they were requested as child-directed, always non-personalized.

Pawshift:

In Pawshift: interstitial ads appear at the earliest once you have solved ten puzzles – not during the first two app launches or the first ten minutes of play – and then at most on every third result card, when you leave it. Optional rewarded videos (double your sparks, sparks in the shop) are only loaded when you choose to watch one. The App Tracking Transparency prompt on iPhone and iPad is only shown to adults – where consent is required (e.g. in the EU), only after they agreed to personalized ads.

16. Children and teens

Woof Island asks for the birth year at first launch. If your birth year means you turn 13 or younger this year, you see no ads and a parental gate appears before every purchase. If you turn 16 or younger: no personalized ads, no tracking prompt and no e-mail linking; progress is only backed up anonymously. The birth year is stored in the save – on the device and, while the cloud backup is on, in the cloud as well – and is only used to choose suitable settings.

Our games are not specifically directed at children under 13. Minors need parental consent for purchases. We recommend protecting purchases in the device settings (Screen Time or Google Family Link).

Pawshift:

Age question: on first launch the app asks for your year of birth. The answer stays on your device and only decides which ads may be shown: under 16 there is no consent form and only non-personalized ads; under 13 ads are additionally requested as child-directed. For everyone, only ads rated for all ages are shown.

“Pawshift” is not specifically directed at children. Minors need their parents' permission for purchases. We recommend protecting purchases in the device settings (Screen Time or Google Family Link).

Runaway Tail:

Age question: The first time you launch the game, it asks for your year of birth before any ads or Google's consent dialog are loaded. Only the age group (under 13, 13 to 15, 16 and over) is stored on your device; we don't store the year of birth itself, and it is never sent to anyone. If you are under 16, the game marks every ad request to Google as “under the age of consent”; if you are under 13, also as “child-directed”. In that case there is no consent dialog and no App Tracking Transparency prompt, and Google shows only non-personalized, limited ads. For all age groups, ads are limited to the rating “suitable for all ages”. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR in conjunction with Art. 8 GDPR (protection of minors).

“Runaway Tail” is meant for all ages but is not specifically directed at children. Minors need their parents' permission for purchases. We recommend protecting purchases in the device settings (Screen Time or Google Family Link).

Wobble Garden:

Age information: after the fifth solved level, the app asks once for your age. On newer iOS versions it first asks for Apple's age range (“Declared Age Range”), which you or your family can share. Otherwise it asks for your month and year of birth; “Rather not say” is an option. Stored only on your device and not in the iCloud backup: your month and year of birth, or the age group reported by Apple with the date it was asked, or that you chose “Rather not say”. From month and year the game recalculates your age every time – as you get older, you move up to the next group by yourself. An age group reported by Apple is asked for again after a year.

Under “Age group” in the settings you can change your answer, but only toward more protection; an answer that would mean less protection is not accepted. If you made a mistake, delete and reinstall the app. Your age information only decides whether and how ads are requested (see above) and whether you get the daily free tip. The purpose is protecting minors (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR where required, otherwise (f)); no interest profiles are created from it.

Under 13: no ads and no videos; instead there is a free tip every day as long as you have fewer than three tips, and no purchase button in the tip dialog. “Wobble Garden” is not specifically directed at children under 13. Minors need parental consent for purchases. We recommend protecting purchases in the device settings (Screen Time).

17. Reminders and photos

Applies to: Woof Island, Doggo Dive and Runaway Tail

Reminders (e.g. “Your crops are ready”) are scheduled only with your permission and only on your device. Photos from photo mode are saved or shared only when you choose to; we never receive them.

Doggo Dive:

If you agree (a question in the game from level 6, then iOS or Android), the app schedules reminders on your device: when your lives are full, for the daily gift at 6 pm and 24 hours before an event you take part in ends. This happens only on the device; there is no push server and no device token with us. Turn off: Settings → “Reminders”.

From level 8, after a 3-star win the app may open Apple's or Google's rating dialog at most every 120 days. The system decides whether it appears; we receive no data from it.

Runaway Tail:

If you agree – first in the game, then in the iOS prompt – the game reminds you of its festivals (when they begin and shortly before they end) and, at most once, of your daily gift if you haven't played for a few days. The notifications are scheduled on your device; there is no push service, and no data is sent to us or anyone else. You can turn them off in the game under Settings → More → Notifications or in the iOS Settings.

18. Visiting this website

This website (games.grubenhund.com) sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking tools and embeds no third-party content; fonts, images and videos come from the same server. Links to the App Store, Google Play or other websites only transfer data to those providers once you click them.

When you open a page, the host processes technically necessary data in server logs: IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred, browser and operating system. This is required to deliver the website, detect attacks and fix errors (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR; legitimate interest in secure and reliable operation). The site is hosted by Vercel Inc., 650 California St, San Francisco, CA 94108, USA, as processor; transfers to the USA are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and Vercel's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Logs are kept only as long as needed for operation, security and troubleshooting, usually no longer than 30 days.

If you send me an e-mail, I process your details in order to reply (Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR).

19. Recipients and service providers

  • Supabase, Inc. (USA) – cloud storage and database, servers in Frankfurt, Germany (processor)
